Students: Prepare for a Job Interview

Preparing for a job interview can be very stressful. Make sure you know how to prepare and what to prepare. You're goal is to make a good first impression.

Before you go to the interview, research the employer or company website. What is their mission statement? Do they have a Twitter or LinkedIn page? What do you know about this company?

To dress for success, you need a smile, a positive attitude, and professional attire (suit, tie, dress slacks, formal shoes).

Arrive early. When you meet the employer, shake their hand (strong handshake), make eye contact, and introduce yourself.

What happens during the interview? First, the employer will introduce who they are and talk about the company. Take notes! Bring a notebook and pencil. This makes you seem interested and shows that you take the job seriously. Then the employer will ask you questions. Remember to sit with a straight posture, speak slowly, and maintain eye contact.

At the end of the interview, most likely the employer will ask you, "Do you have any questions for us?" Be prepared to ask at least 3 questions. You should have prepared these questions BEFORE the interview.
