Eaton RESA High School Program at Potter Park Zoo

Potter Park Zoo Gears Up for Another Year of Eaton RESA’s High School Zoo Program.

Starting this week, Eaton RESA high school students will begin their first semester enrolled in Eaton RESA’s Animal Science and Zoo Management program.  The class is held at Potter Park Zoo for juniors and seniors interested in learning about veterinary medicine, anatomy, conservation, zoology and environmental education.

Students have the chance to interact with a diversity of animals as well as engage in classroom learning. Whether pouring rain or sunshine, students will work in various capacities to handle and care for animals living indoors or outdoors. Divided into a morning and afternoon session, the program is held Monday through Friday all year round.

What is Articulated College Credit?

What is Articulated Credit?

Articulated and Direct College Credits allow high school students to acquire college credits upon successful completion of a college level course. Eaton RESA's programs are based upon college level work. So students can earn college credits if they pass all the necessary requirements to complete the program (assessment tests, homework, test, grades).

What is the difference between Articulated and Direct Credit?

Direct Credit allows you to earn college credits that can transfer to most community colleges in Michigan. Articulated Credit also allows you to earn college credit but it must be used at a specific college, in this case, the credit must be applied at Lansing Community College. Most of the Eaton RESA Career Preparation Center programs offer Direct College Credit. However, we have two programs that only offer Articulated College Credit --- Heavy Equipment Operator and Repair at AIS.

How is Direct Credit Awarded to the Student?

Direct credit is awarded to a student who: a) meets the performance objectives for a specific college course; b) obtains the required Accuplacer level prerequisite for the course(s), c) passes the college course final examinations, if one is required. These credits are shown as numerical grades on the student’s college transcript.

Why is this important for you to know?

Articulated and direct credits allow high school students to earn college credits while they are still enrolled in high school. You can save time and money right now.

What does this all mean? You're getting a jump start on college by having the chance to earn college credits BEFORE you graduate high school.
