Fashion Class Goes to Younkers

Students in the Fashion Design program at Eaton Career Preparation Center have the chance to attend weekly field trips to Younkers in the Lansing Mall. This is a consecutive field trip that lasts 18 weeks over the entire school year. Students meet with staff at Younkers to learn all aspects of the retail business including buying and selling, supply chain, customer service, pricing, visual merchandising, and understanding retail strategies.

Store duties and responsibilities are divided up among the class: setting up the floor and dressing mannequins, pricing and folding clothes as well as taking merchandise off the truck. Instructor Anne Wojtkowski explains that this opportunity is like a mini internship for students.

'Parent Day' at Eaton Career Preparation Center

Students at the Eaton RESA Career Preparation Center had a chance to bring their parent to school last week. 'bring your child to work,' became 'Bring your parent to school.' Parents and guardians participated in hands-on activities in the classroom and lab.

Students impressed mom and dad with their skills in cutting and sawing wood, changing and rotating tires, checking and repairing engine parts, using blowtorches and tools to heat and press metals, and designing outfits to put on display at Younkers.
