Visitation Day

What's it like to take career classes? What do you do? Local area high school students in Lansing were invited to attend “Visitation Day” at the +Eaton RESA Career Preparation CenterSophomores and Juniors had the option to select two programs from our list of 15 classes. They had a chance to participate in hands-on projects and experience a non-traditional classroom environment. Student volunteers currently enrolled in our programs spoke to sophomores and juniors about their personal experiences at the Eaton RESA Career Center. 

Students visiting the Auto Technology program had a chance to work on cars while students in the Fashion Design class designed newspaper dresses. Each program offered a unique mini project for students to work on. Over 1000 students attended Eaton RESA's Visitation Day at Lansing Community College West Campus. It was a busy day for staff and volunteers.

Student Opportunities: Job Shadows and Internships

High school students enrolled in our Career and Technical programs at the Eaton RESA Career Preparation Center are provided multiple opportunities for career exploration. Juniors and seniors participate in job shadows and internships during the school year to further their career education. 

For example, Computer Support students participate in short term internships at Liquid  Web and other IT companies in the greater Lansing area. Our Student Service Coordinators provide resources for students to select from a variety of internships and hands-on experiences.

Health Technology Students enjoy 'Parent Day'

High school students in the Health Technology program at Eaton Career Preparation Center enjoyed an exciting week of 'Parent Day' in October. Parents and guardians visited Health class throughout the week and participated in hands-on activities with their child. 


Students demonstrated their nursing skills by taking blood pressure, checking a patient's vital signs, feeding and brushing teeth, cleaning hospital supplies, and putting on protective wear.

High School Field Trip: Construction Technology Students


Eaton Career Preparation Center students have multiple opportunities to participate in field trips off campus. Construction Technology students went to the South Baptist Church in Lansing, Michigan. 

The class received a tour of the construction site where workers are building an addition onto the chapel. Scott Mason, Superintendent of Wieland-Davco Construction, spoke with students regarding the project. 

Class instructor Scott De Ruischer encouraged students to ask questions. The field trip was a great success, students engaged in hands-on learning and real life experiences.

'Parent Day' at Eaton Career Preparation Center

Students at the Eaton RESA Career Preparation Center had a chance to bring their parent to school last week. 'bring your child to work,' became 'Bring your parent to school.' Parents and guardians participated in hands-on activities in the classroom and lab. 



Students impressed mom and dad with their skills in cutting and sawing wood, changing and rotating tires, checking and repairing engine parts, using blowtorches and tools to heat and press metals, and designing outfits to put on display at Younkers.

Class Field Trip: Michigan Supreme Court

 
 














High School students in the Law Enforcement program at Eaton RESA Career Preparation Center had the opportunity to visit the Michigan Supreme Court and 54A District Court in Lansing. Students participated in hands-on exhibits and activities at the Learning Center. A mock courtroom and jury is located in one of the exhibits at the Learning Center to teach students how court cases are conducted. The class enjoyed their field trip and had a wonderful experience.
